In 2013, I studied documentary photography and multimedia with DJ Clark at Pathshala South Asian Media Academy in Dhaka, Bangladesh. This work is a record of that time moving through markets, rice fields, and family kitchens across Dhaka, Char Fasson, and the remote island of Dhal Char, learning to see a place I didn't yet know how to read, whose pace and population were faster and bigger than anything I'd experienced.
These images don't follow one subject or one story. They're closer to a set of observations: a man making naan in a tandoor oven, rice laid out to dry in the sun, the rhythm of daily labor in a country where so much of life happens outdoors, in public, in view of everyone. Pathshala's approach pushed me to slow down and look past the obvious frame to find the specific, human moment inside a place that could otherwise be photographed as spectacle.
